The inspiration for the tripod legs came directly from the temporary legs made of particle
board that had been used to support the first mock-up particle board top and then final glass
top. They can be seen in the Page 1 photos. These T-shaped assemblies also indicated what
the proper overall sizes should be.

Finding the correct proportions for the beam sections, mortise and tenon joints, and
deciding on the orientation of the rough hewn and smooth faces became the next problem.
This was worked out using the timbers themselves over a chalk outline on the of the floor of
the glass top (the top weighs approx 300# and never was moved from it's point of delivery).

Part way in this process it became possible to decide on the most likely lengths for the steel
stretchers and  the main T-shape was cut and welded so it's final size and position could be
determined:
